Whilst training will already be underway for many Evertonians who have signed up for this year’s ‘virtual run’, there’s now even more incentive to get involved with supporters able to take part and run, jog or walk their very own 5k wherever they are in the world.

If you’ve signed up and are raring to go, don’t forget to share your videos and photos with us by tagging us on Twitter @EitC and on Instagram, @EvertonintheCommunity.

You can also share your runs with us by using the App ‘Strava’ which will allow you to share your training routes, times and allows you to chat to fellow ‘If You Know Your History’ runners. Click here to join our group.

In October 2019, over 450 runners ran the inaugural ‘If You Know Your History’ run with supporters taking in a 5k route of the history of Everton Football Club, starting from the famous 1787 Lock-Up Tower and finishing in Stanley Park, the Blues’ home at one stage in their history.

Please remember that this is a virtual event only.

This year, in light of Government advice and health guidance, we’re encouraging supporters to adhere to social distancing rules by planning and venturing through their own 5k route in aid of Everton in the Community’s The People’s Place fundraising campaign.

The People’s Place is the charity’s latest fundraising campaign which aims to build a designated all-encompassing mental health facility just 500 metres away from Goodison Park. The facility will provide an overarching service to anyone, and will promote positive mental health alongside support related to suicide awareness and or/suicide prevention.

Supporters are encouraged to plan a route which means something to them, whether it be in reference of their love for Everton, or a route which evokes memories and personal stories as fundraising manager, Carena Duffy explains.

“The first-ever ‘If You Know Your History’ run was a resounding success with Blues from across the area joining us as we celebrated the history of our football club whilst raising vital awareness and money for The People’s Place.

“Although this year’s run is going to look a little different, the cause remains the same, and as a result of the pandemic and its knock-on effects, that cause has become even greater for the people suffering with mental health in our community.

“We’re so grateful to the Evertonians who have got into the spirit and are joining us this weekend, and we’re so thankful to all who have sponsored our runners, who’ll be taking in their very own personal 5k route.

“On behalf of us all here at Everton in the Community, the very best of luck on your run this Sunday – although we won’t be there as you cross your own personal finish line, we will most certainly be with you all the way, in spirit!”
