“I wanna hold ‘em like they do in Texas, please.” That’s the memorable first line of Lady Gaga’s breakthrough 2008 hit “Poker Face,” and it sounded oh-so-sweet coming out of Fort Worth native Kelly Clarkson’s mouth on Friday (Feb. 19) when the Lone Star singer sang a rocked-up cover of the tune on her talk show during the week-closing Kellyoke segment.
With chunking guitars and an insistent beat, Clarkson soared through the song’s chorus as the stage lit up in a blaze of blinking pink and green lights and Kelly gave the refrain an extra punch to match the slapping drums.
It’s been that kind of week on The Kelly Clarkson Show, with KC rocking through covers of Jessie J’s “Price Tag,” the Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These,” Toni Braxton’s “You Mean the World to Me” and No Doubt’s “Just a Girl.”
