The IOC has refused to condemn its vice-president, John Coates, for the way he spoke to a female politician during an uncomfortable media conference in Tokyo.
Coates and the Queensland premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, were sharing a stage after Brisbane was named as the host city for the 2032 Olympics.
Palaszczuk, 51, who has faced criticism in Australia for travelling to Japan, given the situation with the pandemic, said it was not her intention to attend tonight’s opening ceremony.
