New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit will undergo surgery after an MRI revealed a partially torn meniscus in his right knee, the team announced on Saturday.

Voit, 30, will return “considerably sooner than June,” manager Aaron Boone said.

The injury prompted the Yankees to add Jay Bruce, who turns 34 next week, to the Opening Day roster as a fill-in at first base.

Voit led the majors in home runs with 22 during the shortened 2020 season. The 22 homers were a career high for Voit, despite playing in just 56 games.

In 283 career games, Voit has a .274 batting average, 62 home runs and 168 RBIs.

Bruce, entering his 14th season with his sixth team, has a .245 lifetime average and 318 home runs and 948 RBIs in 1,640 games. The three-time All-Star will earn $1.5 million this season.

The Yankees open their season on April 1, hosting the Toronto Blue Jays.
