In the 2022 season for the New York Yankees, Carpenter hit .305 with 15 homers, 37 RBI and an elite 1.139 OPS. However, he struggled with injuries. When he returned from a broken foot to the playoffs, he went 1-for-12 with nine strikeouts in six games.
The lefty bat was well-loved amongst Yankees fans for his mustache and leadership, which the Bronx will miss. The three-time All-Star will likely fill a utility role for the Padres, with the ability to DH, play outfield, or corner infield.
