Xhaka gets 9/10, Saliba shines again: Arsenal player ratings vs Brentford

Saliba #Saliba

Arsenal returned to the top of the Premier League table following a comfortable victory over Brentford this afternoon, here are our player ratings…

Goals from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira got us the win, and we deservedly go into the international break as the league leaders.

A comfortable game for the Englishman, who barely had to do anything. Seeing him go down in the second half was worrying, but hopefully, it’s nothing serious.

Ben White: 7/10

White was heavily criticised for his performance at the Brentford Community Stadium last year, but nobody can complain this time around. He had a solid game and once again proved how wrong Gareth Southgate is to leave him out of the England squad.

William Saliba: 9/10

This guy is just incredible. He scored our opener, handled Ivan Toney like he was a nobody, and his composure amazes us everytime. Another sensational display by the Frenchman.

The Brazilian, like Saliba, was really comfortable. Brentford’s forwards, who are usually a handful for most defenders, couldn’t do anything today.

Gabriel felt something in his knee before kickoff and during the game, but he looked alright in the end, which, hopefully, is good news.

Kieran Tierney: 7/10

Many wondered what would happen to Tierney after Oleksandr Zinchenko’s incredible start to the campaign. However, the Scotsman reminded everyone that he’s one of the best in the league as well. A solid display today.

Thomas Partey: 9/10

Injuries continue to be a pain for Partey, but when he’s fit, he’s one of the best midfielders in the country. He was near-flawless this afternoon, and his presence in the middle of our park makes Xhaka look much better as well. Hopefully, he can stay fit now.

Granit Xhaka: 9/10

The Swiss international has taken his game to a whole new level this season. He has been sensational in that advanced role, and his assist to Gabriel Jesus’ goal was truly fantastic as well. A real candidate for Man of the Match.

What a way to mark your first Premier League start. The Portugal international showed everyone why Mikel Arteta was so keen to sign him. An outstanding goal from outside the box, and we can’t wait to see more of him.

Gabriel Martinelli: 7/10

As hard-working as ever, Martinelli had another solid game. He switched positions with Jesus really well, worked his socks off and was unlucky not to score early on. A very decent display nevertheless.

Bukayo Saka: 7.5/10

A lot was said about Saka’s start to the season, but he’s slowly silencing all his critics. His movement was very good, he really troubled Brentford’s defenders, and like Martinelli, he was unlucky not to score.

Gabriel Jesus: 9/10

Another game, another goal for Jesus. He really has lifted everyone around him with his mentality, work ethic and incredible quality. His movement for his goal was fantastic and his finish was even better.

Sky Sports even handed him the Man of the Match award in the end, and we’re sure he’ll win many more of those in the coming months.
