BALTIMORE — Astros second baseman Jose Altuve said X-rays taken of his left elbow were negative after he got hit with a pitch during Wednesday’s win against the Rays.
Altuve was not in the Astros’ lineup on Thursday for the series opener against the Orioles — which was a previously scheduled day off for him anyway — but said he could have started if necessary.
Altuve said he expects to play Friday in Baltimore, though Astros manager Dusty Baker said he would have to see how sore Altuve felt.
Aledmys Díaz started at second base and Jeremy Peña batted leadoff for Houston in Altuve’s place on Thursday.
