On the heels of an extraordinary first night, WrestleMania 39 culminated Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California with a blockbuster main event for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship as Roman Reigns defended against Cody Rhodes.
The epic encounter capped a card that also saw Bianca Belair celebrate one year as Raw women’s champion by defending against No. 1 contender Asuka.
Elsewhere, Gunther put the Intercontinental Championship on the line in a Triple Threat match with Sheamus and Drew McIntyre, while Brock Lesnar returned to The Grandest Stage of Them All against Omos.

Brock Lesnar vs. Omos
2 of 7
The unstoppable force met the immovable object to start Night Two of WrestleMania 39 as Brock Lesnar battled the monstrous “Nigerian Giant,” Omos.
The match was infinitely better than it looked on paper. It was a ton of fun, with Lesnar selling to put over Omos’ power-based offense before taking advantage of an ill-fated charge into the corner and taking him to Suplex City.
A massive F-5 ended The Nigerian Giant’s night as Lesnar scored his first WrestleMania victory since 2018.
Lesnar could have easily pouted and sandbagged Omos but instead, he worked hard to put him over, then eeked out a win. A solid way to start off the show.

Women’s WrestleMania Showcase Match
3 of 7
For the second night in a row, WWE presented a WrestleMania Showcase Match aimed at getting the participants onto the show. Raquel Rodriguez and Liv Morgan, Natalya and Shotzi, Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville, and Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler made up the field.
It was fairly obvious going in who would win but the match featured some solid work from the other three teams if nothing else. They were the ones who put in the work, doing the heavy lifting while showing off their arsenals.
Unfortunately, the finish was as uninspired and lackluster as possible, with Rousey and Baszler popping up at the end after contributing next to nothing and stealing the win by way of an armbar from Rousey on Shotzi.
An OK match with a bad ending and no clear direction for anyone outside of the victors makes this a creative disappointment, even if the effort was there from the competitors.
Well, six of them, at least.

Triple Threat Match for the Intercontinental Championship
4 of 7
Three of the hardest-hitting, most physically demanding competitors in professional wrestling clashed over the Intercontinental Championship in the night’s third match as Sheamus and Drew McIntyre challenged Gunther in one of the show’s most anticipated bouts.
It did not disappoint.
All three competitors beat the unholy hell out of each other, bruising their chests and punishing their bodies. McIntyre and Sheamus continued to tell their story of mounting dissension, with the Scotsman costing his opponent the victory and title on multiple occasions.
Late in the match, the exhausted friends-turned-enemies unloaded on each other, culminating with Sheamus catching McIntyre with one more Brogue Kick. He covered, only for Gunther to fly in from the top rope with a splash and finish McIntyre off with a powerbomb for the successful title defense.
It is going to take a truly special match to top this one.
We knew Gunther and Sheamus had chemistry, as did McIntyre and The Celtic Warrior, but together, the three competitors stole the show with another instant classic to help elevate this 2023 broadcast into the realm of the best WrestleManias ever.

Raw Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair vs. Asuka
5 of 7
Bianca Belair looked to complete one full year as Raw Women’s champion Sunday night. To do so, she would have to defeat arguably the most dangerous challenger to her throne, “The Empress of Tomorrow,” Asuka.
She did. Barely.
Asuka tested Belair throughout, appearing to have her in danger of losing the title on more than one occasion. Belair consistently fought through it and fended her challenger off, usually by utilizing her power-based offense to offset the ferocity of her challenger.
Late, Asuka tried to spray her trademark mist in the eyes of Belair but The EST dodged it, withstood an armbar attempt and powered her up for the KOD. Three seconds later and Belair moved to 3-0 on the grand stage.
Belair is quickly establishing herself as one of the best big-match performers in the industry and a match like this, despite a minuscule build, being as good as it was with a crowd as into as they were only adds credence to it.
Asuka will rebound beginning on Raw, where she can sink deeper into despair, becoming more dangerous and evil in her pursuit of the title. This feud was not good enough, or complete enough, for the title change.
It will be, Asuka will dethrone Belair, and all will be right with the world. For now, WWE was right to preserve what is becoming an impressive streak for The EST at WrestleMania; one it can build on moving forward if it sees fit.

The Miz, Snoop Dogg and Shane McMahon Nonsense
6 of 7
The Miz and Snoop Dogg took to the squared circle for another intermission of sorts, with the rap icon goading The Hollywood A-Lister into another impromptu match.
Tonight’s opponent? Shane McMahon, whose return generated a huge pop before entering the ring and trying a leapfrog that ended with him blowing out his knee.
Snoop delivered a People’s Elbow and scored the “win” to put the abomination out of its misery.
This was not good and only served to beg the question: why the hell couldn’t we get Bobby Lashley an actual match on this card?

Hell in a Cell: Edge vs. Finn Balor
7 of 7
Finn Balor broke out The Demon for his Hell in a Cell match with Edge, the culmination of a 10-month feud that started with the former kicking the latter out of his own Judgment Day faction and assuming leadership of it.
What was once an unstoppable force of nature, though, was humanized in a questionable bit of booking.
Balor was dominant early but a ladder to the head opened up a nasty gash that forced the match to stop for several minutes while trainers checked on the heel and Edge awkwardly walked around setting up weaponry.
Once the match kicked back into gear, it proved to be very good, but still lacked the aggression and intensity you would hope for from a match that was accompanied by as long a story as it was.
Balor whiffed on a Coup de Grace, Edge made him pay with a spear and finished him off with a con-chair-to for the win.
The babyface going over in a match like this, the blowoff of a year-long program, makes sense. The problem is not that Edge won but, rather, that he beat The Demon to do it. That gimmick has not been destroyed and diminished by creative. It is still a special attraction. Why beat that persona for a second, consecutive time?
Just don’t book that gimmick. The Hell in a Cell structure was enough of a draw without involving The Demon, especially when it was known Edge would be going over. It feels like a booking misstep that overshadows what was a great display of gutsiness from a lacerated Balor and a strong match otherwise.
