Braun Strowman defeated Shane McMahon in a very entertaining match that saw Strowman toss Shane McMahon from the top of the cage and secure the victory. This was a satisfying redemption song for Strowman, who had been much-maligned throughout this feud.

There’s no two ways about this, Braun Strowman had to have this win. Given the incremental damage that has been done to the once-surging Braun Strowman character, a WrestleMania loss to a 51-year-old Shane McMahon could have been the death knell to this character.

Braun Strowman vs. Shane McMahon was universally panned as a feud, filled with slime, Jaxson Ryker, Elias and hopscotch. The storyline centered around Strowman’s intelligence being questioned at every turn, however instead of garnering sympathy for being bullied by an authority figure, Strowman’s actions only proved Shane McMahon’s points.

On the March 1 broadcast of Raw, Strowman teamed with a reluctant Adam Pearce for the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships. Despite clearly having the match won, Strowman foolishly took orders from Shane McMahon to tag out of the match. This set the tone for a feud that got worse with every passing week.

Despite the Steel Cage stipulation—another dumb call on Strowman’s part given WWE’s history of outside interference in the open-top structure as Jaxson Ryker and Elias attempted to assist Shane McMahon throughout.

Once upon a time, Braun Strowman appeared to be on the fast track to becoming a perennial top star for WWE. And while he continues to hold on to that distinction for dear life, WWE has done a disservice to a giant whose path to super stardom comes with a proven formula that WWE already succeeded with in 2017.

Strowman must now attempt to use his momentum to move up the crowded Raw roster on the marathon Monday night flagship.
