Sami Zayn brought back his Worlds Apart theme music for a very special homecoming in Montreal.
The WWE superstar returned to his hometown on Friday’s episode of SmackDown and received an incredible ovation 24 hours before he faces Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber.
The former Intercontinental Champion has a chance at writing his name in the history books on Saturday night as he battles the Tribal Chief with the Undisputed WWE Universal Title on the line.
As he attempts to end Roman’s 900+ run with the gold, he’ll have the city of Montreal behind him, which couldn’t have been more clear on SmackDown as he stood in the ring soaking up the adulation of the fans.
Coming out to Worlds Apart was a stroke of genius, with fans loving to sing along to Sami’s original WWE theme.
He previously ditched the entrance music in an attempt to match his changing character, but it makes perfect sense to bring it back this weekend to add another layer to what we’re seeing on screen.
Fans love the ska punk anthem, which lends itself perfectly to arena and stadium-wide singalongs, but Sami previously admitted he was actually glad to move away from it when he did.
‘No, I don’t [miss it]. Honestly, I wanted to change that song for a while. I thought I had it for too long – two years too long, maybe three years too long,’ he laughed while speaking exclusively to Metro.co.uk.
‘Once I became a bad guy. I felt it should have switched right away. [Former WWE boss Vince McMahon] had a bit of a different mindset about it, which I see his point.
‘It reached a point where it didn’t match the character anymore. Especially when I was doing the conspiracy stuff.’
Fans are often asking about the song, but Sami insisted ‘that’s just not how life works’, and sometimes things just end and ‘they don’t come back’ – although clearly this weekend is an exception.
WWE’s Elimination Chamber will broadcast live from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, on Saturday night (February 18) at 1am. Tune in on the WWE Network or on BT Sport.
