Sure, professional wrestling’s outcomes are scripted, but the bumps can be very real, and that means the injuries can be pretty, nasty, too.
And after WWE’s Hell in a Cell Sunday night there is a gnarly visual to go along with that idea because one of the company’s stars — Cody Rhodes — went through with his main event match with Seth Rollins despite having suffered a torn pec while reportedly lifting weights prior to the event.
This wasn’t part of a storyline, and it is very likely that Rhodes, who won the match, will be out for quite a while. And that became apparent the moment he took off his robe Sunday to reveal a nasty looking bruise running across his chest. Fans reportedly had an audible response in the building when he revealed his chest, and social media certainly took off with talk of Rhodes’ grit.
“Absolute Warrior,” fellow professional wrestler Brian Meyers tweeted.
The WWE said Rhodes initially injured his pec while working with Rollins on Monday night, and then tore it “completely off the bone,” while lifting during the week.

“You guys paid your money to see me, I wasn’t missing my return to Chicago at the Allstate Arena,” he reportedly said after the match. “We will get through this, and I’ll update you all tomorrow.”
Rhodes, who is the son of wrestling legend Dusty Rhodes, made a splash earlier this year when he left All Elite Wrestling to return to the WWE after a seven-year hiatus from the company. He appeared in line to challenge Roman Reigns for the title, but it looks like those plans will be put on hold for a while.
