WWE Rumors: Seth Rollins’ Knee Injury Diagnosed as Torn MCL, Partially Torn Meniscus
Seth #Seth
WWE world heavyweight champion Seth Rollins suffered a torn MCL and a partially torn meniscus during Monday night’s episode of Raw, according to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp.
Rollins put the title on the line against Jinder Mahal in the main event of Raw, and while he finished the match and picked up the victory, Rollins appeared to be favoring his leg during the latter stages.
The 37-year-old veteran has a history of knee injuries, as he tore his ACL, MCL and meniscus in 2015, forcing him to relinquish the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Wade Keller of PWTorch reported this week that Rollins’ injury was not part of a storyline and was legitimate. Keller added that Rollins was helped to the backstage area and was eventually able to put weight on his leg, although he had an obvious limp.
In a subsequent report, Keller (h/t Felix Upton of Ringside News) expressed his belief that “bad news” may be forthcoming regarding Rollins’ condition since none of his WWE sources were willing to say that Rollins was fine.
PWInsider Elite (h/t Lewis Howse of Cultaholic) reported that Rollins was pulled from scheduled appearances at this weekend’s live events, although he is still being advertised for Monday’s episode of Raw.
The WrestleVotes account on X, formerly known as Twitter, added that Rollins is expected to address his health and future as world heavyweight champion on Raw.
While the recovery timetable for Rollins isn’t yet clear, avoiding an ACL tear would have to be considered a major win.
Rollins’ timeline will depend largely on how significant the MCL tear is, but it is possible to recover from the injury in two months or fewer, which would potentially enable him to compete at WrestleMania 40 in April.
Since the return of CM Punk to WWE in November, all signs have pointed toward a Punk vs. Rollins match for the world heavyweight title at WrestleMania, likely in the main event of Night 1.
Punk is entered in the men’s Royal Rumble match and is essentially the co-favorite to win along with Cody Rhodes. If Punk is victorious, the expectation is that he would challenge Rollins for the title at WrestleMania.
However, if Rollins has to miss an extended period of time and his WrestleMania status is in question, WWE may have to go in a different direction.
Punk vs. Rhodes for the world title is a possibility if Roman Reigns vs. The Rock is on the books for WrestleMania, but if Rhodes is still scheduled to face Reigns, then someone like Drew McIntyre could potentially step up to win the world heavyweight title and be Punk’s opponent on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
