WWE Extreme Rules: Fans debate strange ending to Sasha Banks and Asuka match where Bayley suddenly became the referee
Sasha #Sasha
Many fans had expected that Bayley would cost Sasha Banks in her bid to dethrone Asuka for the Raw Women’s title.
With SummerSlam just around the corner, WWE have done a masterful job of building both Banks and Bayley as the two top stars in the company right now and there has been teases of tension along the way, too.
Sasha Banks and Asuka put on a clinic
Most fans thought Extreme Rules would be the time that Banks got tired of Bayley after she cost her the Raw Women’s title, but the opposite happened.
After Asuka accidentally spat green mist into the eyes of the referee that was intended for Banks, Bayley hit the Empress of
Tomorrow with one-half of the Women’s Tag Team titles and then stripped the referee of his jersey, put it on herself, counted the 1-2-3 and fled with Banks and the title.
Of course, that’s not remotely legal. Even in the crazy world of professional wrestling where on the same show a man lost an eye and another drowned, that’s not how you win matches.
Sasha Banks dominated large parts of the matchup with Asuka
Fans debated after the match – which prior to the finish was an absolutely outstanding match it should be said – if the finish was creative or just outright stupid.
If a superstar could just put on a referee shirt and call a match, then presumably everyone would for their friends, right? Who needs rules?!
Of course, this is probably just a means to get Banks and Bayley to fall out in the short to long term and we should give the story a chance to blossom.
For WWE’s part, they explained on their website that Sasha Banks was crowned the unofficial champion and they still list Asuka as the official champion.
Sasha Banks and Asuka had a bizarre ending
“With the referee incapacitated, Bayley struck Asuka with one of the Women’s Tag Team Titles and put on the referee’s shirt to count a pinfall for Banks, unofficially hailing her partner as the victor and fleeing with the Raw Women’s Championship.”
No doubt the story will progress on RAW tomorrow night with Asuka determined to get her title back.
