Wrexham striker Paul Mullin sent Ryan Reynolds wild after producing his own Hand of God moment in their 5-4 play-off defeat to Grimsby Town.
The two National League sides put on a barnstormer of a match in their semi-final showdown which included a controversial moment when Mullin bundled in to put his side 3-2 ahead. The ball went in off his arm Diego Maradona-style, but the handball wasn’t spotted by the officials.
Reynolds was jumping around with joy as he celebrated the goal along with co-owner and fellow actor Rob McElhenney, with both having made the journey from America to watch the match.

They had seen their side take the lead early on through a Mullin penalty before visitors Grimsby hit back almost immediately and then drew ahead shortly after the break.
Two quickfire finishes, including Mullins’ illegal goal, had put the Welsh outfit back in front in the one-leg tie. But much more drama was still to come at the Racecourse Ground.

Grimsby flipped the game on its head once again to make it 4-3 in their favour, before Wrexham found a response with ten minutes to go to level the mind-blowing match and force extra-time.
It looked to be heading to penalties until a 119th-minute goal left Reynolds and McElhenney heartbroken at the death. The Hollywood stars took over Wrexham in 2020 in a bizarre and shocking move. Explaining why they did it, Reynolds told This Morning presenter Alison Hammond: “It seemed like an interesting proposition.
“We were looking at a bunch of different teams and the thing for me that really struck a chord about Wrexham was how intrinsically tied communities are to their football club.
“It’s a more all encompassing project with Wrexham – their supporters, their community, and taking them back into the English Football League. That is our goal and our hope. We are super excited.”
Unfortunately for the celebrity pair, their goal will now have to be put on hold for another year. Wrexham will be playing non-league football again next season while Grimsby progressed to the final at the London Stadium on Sunday June 5.
