Women’s Tennis Defeats Oregon, 4-1, on Road

Pac-12 #Pac-12

EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 10 UCLA women’s tennis team rebounded from dropping the doubles point to defeat Oregon, 4-1, Sunday at Oregon’s Student Tennis Center.

Vivian Wolff earned her second clinching win in as many matches for the Bruins (11-3, 5-0 in Pac-12 play), who also received singles victories from Abbey Forbes, Annette Goulak and Jada Hart. Each prevailed in straight sets. The Ducks (11-4, 4-2) suffered their first home loss of the season.

Oregon, which had dropped the doubles point just once in 14 matches heading into Sunday’s contest, continued the trend against UCLA. With Bruins Abbey Forbes and Jada Hart on their way to a win on the top court, Courts 2 and 3 went the way of the Ducks. Lillian Mould and Janice Tjen snapped an eight-match winning streak held by Annette Goulak and Vivian Wolff, 6-2 on the middle court. Then, a three-match run by Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson came to an end at the hands of Julia Eshet and Allison Mulville, who took the final three games for a 6-4 victory.

Needing four wins, the UCLA singles lineup came out on top of five first sets in an effort to shift momentum. Forbes, Goulak and Hart quickly capitalized.

No. 8 Forbes dispatched of Tjen, 6-3, 6-1, on Court 1. The win evened the overall score and improved Forbes’ record to 11-1 on the season, including a 10-1 mark on the top court.

Goulak finished up next with a 6-2, 6-1 showing against Mulville on Court 5. The victory marks Goulak’s fifth in a row, improving her record to 9-2. The nine singles wins are second on the team.

Hart followed closely thereafter, overpowering Mould down the stretch on Court 2. The 6-4, 6-0 performance put the Bruins one point away from the overall decision and improved Hart’s career singles record to 89-39. The 89 wins place her in a tie with Jane Chi for 13th place on the program’s singles wins list since 1991.

Wolff prevailed individually for the third match in a row and registered her second clinching victory in as many matches, defeating Uxia Martinez Moral by a 6-4, 7-5 score on Court 4. Wolff seized the final three games to prevent the match from going to a third set.

UCLA will continue its final road trip of the regular season Friday, April 2, when it meets Arizona State. First serve from Whiteman Tennis Center is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., PT. A trip to Arizona’s LaNelle Robson Tennis Center will follow on Saturday, April 3. The Bruins and Wildcats will meet at 11 a.m., PT.
