Woman steals man’s car after he picks her up in East Cleveland: Highland Heights Police Blotter

Grand theft auto: Cheriton Drive

A man, 63, reported at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 25 that he picked up an unknown woman in East Cleveland and returned her to his home, where she then stole his vehicle while he was preoccupied.

The vehicle was pursued by Wickliffe police shortly after, but it failed to stop.

It was recovered in East Cleveland around noon the following day and occupied by three people, who were arrested on unknown charges. It was unclear if the woman was inside the vehicle.

Vandalism: Wilson Mills Road

An alarm was activated at Kohl’s at 4:18 a.m. Aug. 29 and responding officers found a glass door shattered. While investigating, another alarm call was received from Big Lots, and a windowpane was found shattered on that front door.

A man was found walking in the area, but officers could not determine if he was involved.

That man was released but arrested by Mayfield Heights police for throwing a rock through the window at Target about an hour later.

The Cleveland Heights man, 42, was subsequently charged with two counts of vandalism.

Burglary: Rose Boulevard

A resident reported Aug. 23 that her daughter’s bike, valued at $350, was stolen from her garage overnight.

Officers spoke with her and came to the belief that someone entered the garage to steal the bike by using a garage door opener from a vehicle in the driveway.

Disorderly conduct: Jefferson Drive

A woman, 76, was cited for disorderly conduct Aug. 24 after she tried to prevent her home healthcare worker from leaving and spit on her.

Fraud: West Glengary Circle

A woman, 76, reported Aug. 25 that she was almost the victim of a scam after receiving a message on her computer to call a given phone number for computer support.

She called and was told there was a $10,000 charge on her credit card for child pornography. She was then told to purchase ten $1,000 gift cards to avoid prosecution.

She became suspicious and reported the incident.

Theft: Wilson Mills Road

A shoplifter left Home Depot Aug. 25 with two cabinets and a hot water tank but abandoned the items in the parking lot when loss prevention approached him.

Responding officers did not locate the man, who is the suspect in two other thefts from the store.

A representative of Harry Buffalo reported Aug. 26 that an employee may be responsible for a theft from a lottery machine.

The value of the theft is believed to be around $1,000, but information is still being gathered.

Denny’s management reported Aug. 27 that a woman walked out on a $26 tab.

They said she ate half a meal and complained about it. She was made another meal and ate half of that before leaving the restaurant.

She was identified and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
