The Philadelphia 76ers will begin a new era after they decided to move on from coach Doc Rivers after three seasons at the helm. Rivers was highly successful during his time in the City of Brotherly Love, but three consecutive eliminations in the semifinals proved to be costly for his job.

Now, the Sixers need to turn their attention to a coaching search. There will be plenty of worthy names out there to replace Rivers and, per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, there are already a few names.

One of them includes Rivers’ assistant, Sam Cassell. His name is among the likes of Mike Budenholzer, Mike D’Antoni, Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel, and Monty Williams. Budenholzer, Nurse, and Vogel all have championships on their resume during their head coaching careers.

D’Antoni, of course, has Rockets connections with Sixers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey as well as James Harden. The Beard won an MVP under D’Antoni in 2018 while in Houston.

Cassell is a favorite of Sixers guard Tyrese Maxey and he has been helpful with Harden as well. The assistant won two championships as a player and has been a positive influence on getting the most out of the guards. It will be interesting to see how the Sixers handle this current coaching search.
