An oenophile’s dream home in Barnes, a pocket of southwest London alongside the River Thames, is being shopped around for £9.5 million (US$11.24 million), and its star feature is a two-story wine cellar with space for a whopping 5,000 bottles of vino.

The double-level space was the brainchild of the property’s film executive owner, Jason Bevan, who looked to the world of cinema as inspiration for the home’s design.

“In the kitchen stands a 3.5-meter Greek olive tree—an idea that came from a discussion with the Oscar-winning ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts’ production designer, as did the interconnecting concealed tunnel in the children’s bedrooms,” Mr. Bevan said. “The wine cellar, which spans over six meters and across two floors, takes inspiration from the film ‘Layer Cake,’ while the split level media room was influenced by a scene in ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.’”

Across its 8,000 square feet of space, the home has wooden floors, metal-framed windows and doors, skylights, underfloor heating, air conditioning, sound systems and a garden, according to listing agency Savills.

Embarking on the seven-bedroom home’s restoration and renovation was a “labor of love,” Mr. Bevan added. Mansion Global couldn’t determine how much he paid for the property or when he acquired it.

“We commissioned a full architectural heritage study on the house to trace its design origins back to its construction in 1890 so that we could return the facade to its original glory,” he said. “We replaced the original grand Victorian portico, window surrounds and masonry features, taking hand-made custom moldings and reinstating a real slate roof to fully enhance and restore the architecture.”
