Will Jets call 3-time bust Carson Wentz? Here are the available QBs
Jets #Jets
With Aaron Rodgers’ season — and possibly career — over with a torn Achilles, the Jets are in desperate need of a veteran quarterback to back up Zach Wilson or, if necessary, take over the job if he fails again.
But how desperate?
Desperate enough to call three-time bust Carson Wentz? Or one of the other prominent names available — former Jets QB and Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco, former Eagles’ Super Bowl hero Nick Foles, Colt McCoy and Matt Ryan, one-time NFL MVP Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick, who hasn’t played since 2016 and insists the NFL has blackballed him for his civil rights stances.

The Jets traded for Rodgers because, they said, they were built to win a Super Bowl and needed solid quarterback play to put them in contention. With Rodgers’ injury, have their expectations changed? If not, do they believe Wilson can take them to a title game?
Then again, the group of available quarterbacks are available for a reason.
Wentz, a first-round draft pick by the Eagles, failed in three stops — Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Washington — but, if not from the Jets, is likely to get a call this season when a quarterback goes down.
Flacco, who started nine games for the Jets from 2020-2022 and went 1-8 in those games, recently said he wanted to continue his career. The New Jersey native, who led the Ravens to a Super Bowl title in the 2011 season, is 38. He also spent a season with the Denver Broncos.
Foles, who took over when Wentz was injured and won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2018, recently said he’s not ready to retire.
“I’m not doing anything drastic right now,” Foles said via “Up and Adams.” “I’ve got to see where I’m at and we’ll see through the course of this season if I get excited about it again.”
Foles led the Eagles on a miraculous playoff run that ended with a 41-33 victory over Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII. He threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns, while also catching a touchdown on the famed “Philly Special” play on his way to winning Super Bowl MVP.
Foles, 34, played for the Indianapolis Colts last season.
Matt Ryan recently started a TV gig as an analyst with CBS after being released by the Indianapolis Colts in March. He threw for 3,057 yards, with 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his lone season with the Colts after 14 years with the Atlanta Falcons. He was the NFL MVP in 2016.
