Will it rain or snow this week? Here’s a look at Northern California’s holiday forecast
Northern California #NorthernCalifornia
Northern California motorists hitting the road this week for the holidays are in luck: Dry weather is in the forecast, if you don’t count the fog.
Weather will mostly affect travel Monday, according to the National Weather Service, with dense fog through noon along Interstate 5, north of Marysville and up to Redding. Fog is cleared out of Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto areas.
A couple of travel tips from National Weather Service for those who run into fog:
Weather experts foretasted a chance of light rain and snow showers in the mountains both Tuesday and Thursday, but as of Monday morning the systems have dried up.
There should be no measurable rainfall along Interstate 80 or Highway 50, said meteorologist Craig Shoemaker with the National Weather Service, and the chances of mountain snow are also slim.
The main travel impact may just be fog in the valley.
”We will probably get some fog back in Thursday, Saturday and Sunday,” Shoemaker said, “so there will be some foggy mornings potentially heading up to Christmas.”
Some good news: Warmer temperatures are coming by the end of the week with a high of near 60 degrees on Christmas Day.
Starting next week into New Year’s Day, Shoemaker said there’s a possibility of “active weather” with wetter conditions.
