Wiggins’ missed open layup completes Warriors’ meltdown

Andrew Wiggins will want this one back.

With a chance to tie the game with less than eight seconds remaining in the Warriors’ eventual 118-114 loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday, the Warriors forward had an open look at a layup that rimmed out.

Wizards forward Davis Bertans gathered the rebound and hit the ensuing free throws to secure the victory for Washington.

This is an especially painful loss for Golden State (29-30), which needs every win it can get down the stretch to secure seeding in the NBA play-in tournament.

Despite Steph Curry having arguably his worst game of the season (18 points on 7-of-25 shooting), the Warriors were up 11 midway through the fourth quarter behind strong games from Jordan Poole and Kelly Oubre.

But Russell Westbrook, Bradley Beal and the Wizards closed the game out while the Warriors couldn’t get over the hump.

Curry, Wiggins and the Warriors will look to rebound against the Denver Nuggets on Friday at Chase Center.
