  • Buffalo Bills fans got a horrible case of deja vu after Tyler Bass missed a 44-yard field goal in the last two minutes of their playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The phrase ‘wide right’ brings chills and bad memories to the forefront due to a miss from Scott Norwood, the team’s kicker in Super Bowl XXV against the New York Giants.

Norwood also missed a kick to the right of the goal posts, like Bass on Sunday, to secure a painful loss for the Bills. Norwood’s shank proves to be much more painful for the Buffalo fan base, with Bass’ miss serving as a reminder of the team’s horrid history with kickers.

Norwood’s miss with eight seconds left in the Super Bowl, and the Bills down by a single point, set the franchise on a ‘curse’ of losing four straight Super Bowls.

The Bills closest defeat of the four consecutive title matchups was the one-point loss to the Giants.

Bass’ miss secured a Chiefs win and the end of Buffalo’s season in the Divisional round

Norwood has been long associated in Buffalo for the missed field goal in Super Bowl XXV

The next three years saw the Bills lose in the Super Bowl to teams also currently in the NFC East.

A Super Bowl loss to the then-Washington Redskins and a pair of defeats to the Dallas Cowboys, alongside the heartbreak to the Giants, represents every championship appearance for the franchise under the NFL banner.

Bass’ miss only would have tied the game, and it was in the third-to-last round of the playoffs. Yet, the dejection for Buffalo fans likely feels similar.

The Bills only conference championship appearance since losing four Super Bowls in a row was the loss in the 2020 AFC Championship game against the Chiefs.

Bass’ miss clinched a playoff exit for Buffalo in the Divisional round for a third straight season.
