In the early hours of January 5th, fans of TalkRADIO’s YouTube channel noticed it had been removed. Read on to find out why and what people have said about the situation.

The TalkRADIO YouTube channel was previously used as a platform for the station to livestream content on, and archive old shows. Over the years, the channel gained millions of views and even had 250,000 subscribers.

However, the channel, which discusses current affairs and political issues, was removed from the platform on January 5th, much to the disapproval of some listeners.

So far, no confirmation on the exact video that led to the removal has been confirmed, but it’s reported that the account was “terminated for violating YouTube’s community guidelines.”

Some viewers have linked the guidelines in question to YouTube’s Covid-19 guidelines they set out in May 2020 which explain: “YouTube doesn’t allow content that spreads medical misinformation that contradicts local health authorities or the World Health Organization’s medical information about Covid-19.”

It’s unconfirmed if this is the guideline breached by TalkRADIO’s YouTube channel, but fans pointed out that the show has previously criticised lockdown measures and hosted interviewees who have questioned coronavirus figures and the use of masks.

In September, TalkRADIO host Jamie East reportedly quit the show after fellow presenter Mark Dolan cut up his mask on-air in protest of them.

Unsurprisingly, people have been split on YouTube’s decision to remove the channel. Many fans of the show have taken to Twitter to cite the decision as “censorship”, with one fan even claiming: “The age of free speech online is officially dead.”

Others however have been more open to the removal of the channel, with some describing the messages platformed by TalkRADIO as “conspiracy theories” which they believe to be dangerous.
