Chris Paul and the Suns might not have luck on their side when they face the Clippers for Game 2 in the first round of the 2023 NBA playoffs on Tuesday night.
Scott Foster will work as the crew chief of the officiating crew in Phoenix on Tuesday. The last 13 playoff games in which Foster has been on the officiating crew when Paul has played in the game, the star point guard’s team has lost, according to Meadowlark Media’s Tom Haberstroh.
Last season, the streak continued when Foster worked the Suns’ loss in Game 2 vs. the Pelicans in the first round. The year prior, when the Suns were in the NBA Finals, Foster worked both Games 3 and 6, which resulted in losses for Phoenix.
If Phoenix can finally end Paul’s losing streak in games that Foster is on the court, the Suns would tie up the series at one game each. However, if the streak continues, it will put the Suns in a rough spot as the Clippers would go up 2–0.
Of course, if the Suns lose on Tuesday night, it doesn’t mean it’s the fault of Foster and the officiating crew. It appears that this streak is a very weird coincidence.
