Why Steph had ‘mixed feelings’ after 57-point game vs. Mavs

The Warriors were in an interesting position after their game in Dallas on Saturday night.

They had just lost to the Mavericks 134-132 in the second game of their two-game series but had also just witnessed another monster Steph Curry performance that featured him scoring 57 points and hitting 11 3-pointers.

The team wasn’t in a celebratory mood, but Curry’s accomplishment couldn’t be ignored.

“It’s always a good feeling when you feel like you’re in a rhythm, you just need a clean look and things are going to fall,” Curry told reporters after the game. “And obviously we wanted to get the win. Just kind of mixed feelings right now.”

The Warriors put themselves in a good position to win. After digging themselves out of an early deficit, Curry caught fire, scoring 30 points and hitting seven threes in the first half, alone. Every time he chucked a shot up, it felt like it was going in.

This isn’t the first time Curry has scored 45 or more points in a loss. The last time was in Game 3 of the 2019 NBA Finals when Curry had 47 points against the Toronto Raptors. And everyone remembers his 54-point performance against the Knicks in New York in 2013.

But just because though it’s happened before, doesn’t make it any less frustrating.

“I had a lot of good moments out there,” Curry said. “There’s a lot of good energy and we played really hard. They just made a couple more plays down the stretch … but it is frustrating when you have a night like that and it doesn’t lead to a win. I’d be lying if I saw I was happy right now. It was kind of weird walking off the court knowing we didn’t get the dub.”
