Why Princess Beatrice’s baby will have a title (when Princess Eugenie’s doesn’t)

Hurrah for happy royal news – the latest being that Princess Beatrice is expecting her first child with her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. Said baby will arrive in the autumn and no doubt the couple are over the moon at the thought of their new arrival.
Although it hasn’t yet been shared whether the little one is a boy or a girl, one thing we do know is that Princess Beatrice’s baby will be given a title (despite the fact that her younger sister Princess Eugenie’s son, August, does not have one). However, it’s nothing to do with the Queen or the British Royal Family, but rather with Edo’s Italian lineage.
Confused? Stick with me – we’re about to do a bit of a deep dive! Essentially, royal titles pass down through the male line, so because Eugenie’s husband, Jack Brooksbank, doesn’t have one, neither does their son.
However, Beatrice’s husband, Edo, is actually an Italian count (as well as being a multi-millionaire property tycoon), meaning that their child will either become a count or a nobile donna (Italian for ‘noble woman’), depending on its sex.
After their wedding, Beatrice herself also inherited a new title and is now an Italian countess, as well as a British princess.

Edo’s father, Count Alessandro Mapelli Mozzi, spoke with the Daily Mail about their family’s lineage, saying, “Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation. He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.”
He also added that Beatrice and Edo are “very suited to each other” and that “I’ve never seen him so happy,” which of course is beyond adorable.
Princess Beatrice and Edo’s baby news was shared via a statement on the official Royal Family social media channels. In full, it reads: “👶 Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”
Story continues
Beatrice and Edo’s little one is due to become the Queen’s twelfth great-grandchild (with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baby girl, who is due this summer, set to be the eleventh). The child will be Beatrice’s first and Edo’s second, as he already has a little boy named Christopher (nicknamed ‘Wolfie’) who was born in 2016.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
