Whoopi Goldberg has provided a pretty major update on Sister Act 3, revealing that work could still get underway on a long-awaited third movie in the franchise.

Speaking to host James Corden on The Late Late Show with James Corden, she said that following the 1992 original and 1993 sequel Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, an apparent lack of interest stalled any work on a third movie.

But after Corden revealed that he is “such a fan of those movies” and asked why a third film hasn’t happened yet, the iconic actress said that she is working hard to get another instalment off the ground.

“Because for a long time, they kept saying no-one wanted to see it,” she said. “And then quite recently, it turns out, that that may not be true. People might want to see it. So we’re working diligently to try to figure out how to get the gang together and come back.”

She also spoke about just how enjoyable Sister Act was to make and to watch, calling it “a really fun movie”.

“It’s fun and it feels good,” she said. “And you know, nobody’s mad. It’s just, like, listen – bad singing, great singing, okay singing, and then nuns. What’s better than that?”

The news is a development following Goldberg’s latest update about a potential Sister Act 3 in August, when she said she would “keep asking” the appropriate people whether a new movie could be planned.
