ACTOR and comedian John Bird has died aged 86, his representatives have said.

Bird was one of the best-known faces of the TV satire boom of the 1960s, appearing in programmes such as That Was The Week That Was.

John Bird was an English satirist, actor and comedian.

He was born on November 22, 1936, in Bulwell, Nottingham.

Bird attended a grammar school before going to Cambridge and meeting his comedy partner John Fortune.

He was well known for his satirical sketches alongside Fortune and Rory Bremner.

On December 28, 2022, it was announced that the comedy legend had passed away.

A statement announcing his death said he died “peacefully” aged 86 at Pendean care home in West Sussex on Christmas Eve.

A family funeral is set to follow by a celebration of his life in the New Year.

Paying tribute on Twitter, Brenner wrote: “Deeply saddened to hear that the great John Bird has left us.

“One of the most modest of men and most brilliant of satirists. And one of the last surviving pillars of the anti-establishment.”

What was John Bird most famous for playing in?

Bird was part of the satire boom of the 1960s.

He was perhaps best known for his work with Fortune and Bremner in the TV series Bremner, Bird and Fortune.

The show ran for 16 series, as well as one-off specials, between 1999 and 2008, and was nominated for several Bafta TV Awards.

Bird starred with Stephen Fry in the series Absolute Power and appeared on Have I Got News For You.

His film credits include Red and Blue, Cynthia, A Dandy in Aspic, 30 Is a Dangerous Age, Jabberwocky, and Yellow Pages.

Was John Bird married and did he have any children?

The comedian is survived by his wife Libby, a concert pianist, along with his step-sons Dan and Josh.

Libby taught Bird how to play the piano, and they eventually had one each in their home in Surrey.

Speaking to the Great British Life in 2011, Bird expressed his love for the piano, saying: “I love playing the piano.

“There’s nothing I enjoy more in the world than sight-reading a duet together.”
