Michael Cassidy, a former military officer, beheaded the ‘satanic’ statue at the Iowa State Capitol building in Des Moines on Thursday. According to The Sentinel, Cassidy pushed over and decapitated the statue of Baphomet and discarded the head of the statue into the trash, and then proceeded to turn himself in to the police.

Baphomet is an invented pagan or gnostic idol or deity that the Templars were accused of worshipping and that was later embraced by various occult and mystical writers.

The statue had been placed there by members of the Satanic Temple of Iowa after receiving permission from the building’s authorities.

Who Is Michael?

Cassidy was born in Annapolis, Maryland, just outside the Naval Academy, and grew up in Arlington, Virginia, according to his campaign website.

He was commissioned into the Navy in 2009 and after three years of flight school, including being stationed in Meridian for a year, earned his Naval Aviator wings and became an F/A-18 Hornet pilot. After a tour which included a deployment on the USS George Washington, he returned in 2016 as a T-45 instructor pilot and spent the next 5 years as an instructor pilot before leaving active duty.

Cassidy still flies for the Navy Reserves as an instructor pilot, and has a civilian job as a maintenance test pilot for the T-45.

He is currently the Republican nominee for House District 45.

“I’m a Christian conservative who loves our nation and is committed to preserving the blessings of liberty bestowed upon us by the Founding generation. Mississippi needs more people in government who will truly fight for the people, for the Constitution, and for future generations,” his website said.

He just posted this message on X, a verse from the Bible:

His Call To Christians

Cassidy destroyed the altar on Thursday to “awaken Christians to the anti-Christian acts promoted by our government,” according to the outlet.

“The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimisation of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment,” Cassidy said.

“Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water.”

Cassidy turned himself in to officers present in the building. The Satanic Temple of Iowa is seeking to press charges and Cassidy has been charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

“I saw this blasphemous statue and was outraged,” he said to The Sentinel. “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted.”
