Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray left Sunday’s game early in the first quarter with an ankle injury suffered on a sack, leaving the Cardinals to turn to backup quarterback Chris Streveler, an undrafted rookie, during Arizona’s win-or-go-home game against the Los Angeles Rams.
It was Streveler’s first significant playing time of the season and included his first career pass, which went for an 11-yard touchdown to running back Jonathan Ward. Here are five things to know about Streveler:
Led the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to the Grey Cup championship last season in the Canadian Football League. In the 2019 CFL playoffs, Streveler played 23 snaps without attempting a pass in the Blue Bombers’ semifinal win. In the Grey Cup, he was 3-of-3 for 39 yards including an 18-yard TD. He also added 30 yards rushing on 9 carries and caught a 13-yard pass. He celebrated by wearing a cowboy hat and a fur coat without a shirt on underneath during the parade.

Signed with the Cardinals on Feb. 4, 2019, and was the only undrafted rookie to make the Cardinals’ 2020 roster.
Streveler started his collegiate career at the University of Minnesota, where he was a quarterback and wide receiver. He earned his undergraduate degree there, then transferred to South Dakota, where he finished his college career, to pursue a graduate degree.
Streveler had just two snaps this season heading into Sunday’s game against the Rams.
He was a first-team All-American, first-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference and won MVFC Offensive Player of the Year honors as a senior at South Dakota.
