Sarah Edwards, the fresh-faced winner of the Tamworth by-election, received high-profile support during her election battle.
Sporting trendy glasses and a corduroy shirt, the singer Will Young recorded a video for Edwards, a trade union organiser, while visiting this month’s Labour conference, describing her as a “fresh start”.
Another wellspring of support came from Ross Kemp, inexplicably in a caravan park. The former EastEnders hardman recorded a video of support for Edwards on polling day while surrounded by static caravans.

In it, he praised her for “delivering for the people of Tamworth”. He added: “It’s going to be close but you have the opportunity to vote for a difference in your constituency today.”
Aged 35, her online CV on LinkedIn features 17 board, trustee, governor
