The Parkers Seasons 1-5 are now available to stream on Netflix

Dang, mama! Finally, the complete series of The Parkers is available to stream online thanks to Netflix acquiring the fan-favorite UPN sitcom. You can start a binge-watch of all five seasons of the hilarious comedy series when they arrive on Oct. 1.

If you’re a cord-cutter, you probably haven’t had the chance to watch reruns of The Parkers in years since it hasn’t been available on any platform until now. This summer, Netflix announced its acquisition of seven classic Black sitcoms, including sire series Moesha, Girlfriends, and Sister, Sister. The underrated hit starring Academy Award-winner Mo’Nique is the latest to shake up our watch lists with nostalgia.

The Parkers first premiered in 1999 on UPN, where it aired for five seasons of 110 total episodes. While not an overwhelming ratings hit, the sitcom maintained a steady viewership for its entire run and has held onto that fanbase as it ran in syndication throughout the years on networks such as Fuse and BET.

What is The Parkers about?

Countess Vaughn stars in The Parkers as Kim Parker, a fan-favorite character as Moesha’s best friend on Moesha. When Kim departs the original sitcom for college after the fourth season, she moves with her mother Nikki, played by Mo’Nique, to Santa Monica, where they both attend the same school. Together, the mother and daughter deal with friends, family, and love.

Throughout the series, Kim and Nikki’s relationship evolves as they grow closer during this pivotal time of their lives. Perhaps best known for the quotes “Dang, mama!” and “Heeeeey,” the series also features a throughline of Nikki’s tireless pursuit of Professor Oglevee (Dorien Wilson). Mari Marrow, Jenna von Oÿ, Ken L., and Yvette Wilson fill out the cast’s supporting roles.

The Parkers won four NAACP Image Awards, three of which went to Mo’Nique for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series and one went to Dorien Wilson for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Some of the cast members came together for a reunion in 2009 on Mo’Nique’s talk show, but it’s safe to say its return via Netflix will start conversations for another reunion.
