ATLANTA — Zack Wheeler carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning Monday night against what some have called the greatest offensive team in baseball history.

It was an impressive performance. But he left Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Braves at Truist Park after he allowed a two-run home run to former teammate Travis d’Arnaud in the seventh inning. Atlanta went on to even the series, with Austin Riley’s eighth-inning two-run shot fueling the Braves to a 5-4 win.

Wheeler started the game by striking out Ronald Acuña Jr., Ozzie Albies and Austin Riley swinging on four-seam fastballs in the first inning. He struck out Marcell Ozuna, d’Arnaud and Eddie Rosario in the second inning, though all came after Trea Turner booted a ground ball from Matt Olson for an error. Still, the feat made Wheeler the seventh pitcher in postseason history to record six strikeouts through two innings.

Wheeler did not allow a ball out of the infield until Ozuna flied out to center field for the first out of the fifth.

The Phillies’ ace issued a two-out walk to Acuña in the sixth, then allowed his first hit of the game on a single to right field by Albies. Acuña scored when Turner muffed Nick Castellanos’ throw back to the infield.

In all, Wheeler struck out 10 batters, tying a Phillies record for most strikeouts by a pitcher in a postseason game. He is only the third Phils pitcher to carry a no-hitter into the sixth inning, joining Roy Halladay, who threw a no-hitter vs. the Reds in Game 1 of the 2010 NLDS, and Jim Lonborg, who had a no-hitter through 5 1/3 innings in Game 2 of the 1976 NL Championship Series against Cincinnati.
