More than 500 OpenAI employees have threatened to leave if the company’s board doesn’t resign and Altman—as well as former President Greg Brockman—aren’t reinstated. Read their letter to the board here. Altman and others have also pushed for a new board at OpenAI.

Microsoft, OpenAI’s largest investor, said Sunday that it hired Altman and Brockman to lead a new AI research team. The tech giant’s shares moved higher in recent trading.

Meanwhile, OpenAI named former Twitch CEO Emmett Shear its interim chief. Mira Murati, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, had briefly held the position after Altman was removed. The Journal’s Joanna Stern shared some thoughts on Murati on Saturday.

OpenAI’s structure—it’s governed by a nonprofit organization with a board—has helped drive these events forward. Learn more about the board and structure here.

Part of the backdrop: investor enthusiasm for the potential of AI technology, which has driven several stocks higher this year. One of those, Nvidia, is set to report earnings tomorrow.
