What they’re saying about Celtics reportedly suspending Ime Udoka for improper relationship

Celtics #Celtics

Just as the Boston Celtics were set to open up camp for the 2022-23 season, they were rocked by a bombshell report involving their head coach.

Now, it looks like Ime Udoka could be suspended for the whole season for and improper consensual relationship with a female staffer.

The news broke late Wednesday night and, as of Thursday, the fall is rolling through the NBA and Boston news spheres as the possibiliy of Udoka missing the entire season looks more and more like reality. This comes after what appeared to be a dynamic offseason for the Celtics following an NBA Finals run.

Now, the team appears set to lose their head coach and have assistant Joe Mazzulla serve as interim head coach.

Here’s a roundup of reaction from around Boston and across the league to the Udoka news as it continues to develop:

Souichi Terada, MassLive

“Celtics went from an A offseason to in the gutters real quick”

Brady Klopfer, SB Nation

Adam Kaufman, WBZ News Radio

“A truly unbelievable turn for Ime Udoka and the Celtics the last few weeks. The question now becomes whether Udoka will in fact return at all.”

Chris Forsberg, NBC Sports Boston

“If Udoka is suspended or dismissed, it throws the Celtics’ coaching structure into disarray. Will Hardy, Udoka’s top assistant last season, left at the start of the summer to take over as head coach of the Utah Jazz.”

Robert Griffin III, ESPN

“If you are more upset about Ime Udoka and the Celtics situation than Brett Favre STEALING MILLIONS IN WELFARE MONEY FROM THE POOREST PEOPLE IN OUR COUNTRY IN MISSISSIPPI then you are part of the problem.”

Adam Himmelsbach, Boston Globe

“After coming within two wins of an NBA title last June, the Celtics added veterans Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari to their young, talented roster that is built around First Team All-NBA pick Jayson Tatum. Boston subsequently became the betting favorite to win the championship.

“But the past few weeks have been bumpy.”

Meghan Ottolini, WEEI

“Today has already gone completely off the rails”

Brian Robb, MassLive

“The Celtics are set to open up training camp on Tuesday in Boston and the entire team will speak with the media on Monday for Media Day. That timeline will likely push the Celtics to make a final decision on Udoka’s fate quickly on the heels of his violation of team rules.”
