What next for Bassey, Aribo, Iwobi after managers’ sack?

Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey will be working with new managers in the second half of the season following the sack of their former coaches.
Iwobi, who moved to Goodison Park Stadium in 2019 from Arsenal for a fee in the region of £28m, will have to work with new manager Sean Dyche, who was appointed to replace Frank Lampard at Goodison Park, following the sliding fortunes of the Toffees, who are 19th on the Premier League log.
The Nigerian international will now work under his seventh manager since exiting Arsenal four years ago.
Iwobi flourished and had an excellent stint with Lampard, who took over from Rafael Benitez in January 2022, but the club suffered a poor run of form and are second from bottom in the Premier League, with no wins in their last 10 games in all competitions.
The 26-year-old playmaker contributed five assists and scored once in 20 Premier League appearances for the Toffees under Lampard.
The former Arsenal midfielder will now brace up for a fresh challenge under Dyche, who faces a difficult task pulling the club out of relegation waters.
The Merseysideiders will host the league leaders, Arsenal, as Dyche’s debut EPL match for the club February 4.
Eagles defender Calvin Bassey will get a new manager at Ajax soon, after Alfred Schreuder was sacked just seven months after he got the job.
It has been a difficult season for the Nigeria international, who has been criticised for poor form since he made a summer move from Rangers last summer.
Bassey enjoyed playing time under Schreuder, starting in 16 league appearances, scoring one goal.
He started from the bench under interim manager John Heitinga as struggling Dutch champions Ajax picked their first win in their last five games, days after Schreuder’s exit, as they thrashed Excelsior 4-1 at the Van Donge and De Roo Stadion in the Dutch Eredivisie Division fixture on Sunday.
Ajax’s last win was a 3-1 victory against Glasgow Rangers in the Champions League on November 1, 2022.
The 23-year-old would have to convince Heitinga he deserves a starting role and help the team return to their top status.
Also, Southampton midfielder Aribo recently had a new manager Nathan Jones in November 2022, after the club sacked Austrian tactician, Ralph Hasenhuttl, following a string of poor results.
The 26-year-old had regular playing time under former manager Hasenhuttl and has made 14 league appearances for the Saints this season with two goals to his name since arriving at the St Mary’s Stadium from Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers last summer.
Despite Aribo’s contribution, Southampton have struggled for form with the Saints managing only four wins in 20 league matches, losing 13 and drawing 3.
The Saints sit bottom of the table, a position that puts the players and the new manager under intense pressure as they battle to get out of relegation.
