The internet has been abuzz with concern for actor Jamie Foxx, who is recovering following a medical complication. However, very little has been publically shared about the 55-year-old’s condition.

In April, the Foxx family revealed on Instagram that the actor “experienced a medical complication” and was recovering in a post shared by his daughter Corinne, which has since been removed from the platform. Foxx later made a short statement of his own on Instagram without much context as to what has been going on with his health.

USA TODAY has reached out to representation for Foxx on multiple occasions since his complication was announced and has been unable to obtain any more information.

While much of Foxx’s situation remains private, here is everything we do know about his health and what has been shared so far.

Jamie Foxx: ‘On his way to recovery’ after ‘medical complication,’ daughter Corinne reveals

What happened to Jamie Foxx?

In her now removed Instagram post — a statement announcing Foxx’s medical complication — Corinne said her father was recovering.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,” the statement read. “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Corinne Foxx was a writer and executive producer on the Netflix series “Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!” which starred her dad. The actor opened up about his tight-knit relationship with his daughters Corinne, 29, and Annalise Bishop, 14, in his book “Act Like You Got Some Sense: And Other Things My Daughters Taught Me,” released in October 2021.

What has Jamie Foxx said about his health?

In May, Foxx spoke out for the first time. The “Ray” star took to Instagram May 3 to thank his followers for their concern and encouragement weeks after his daughter Corinne’s announcement.

“Appreciate all the love!!!” he wrote in his brief post which included a hands emoji, a heart and a fox emoji. “Feeling blessed.”

His post received ample support from fans and friends with tens of thousands of comments featuring heart emojis and encouraging messages.

But the post also received some skepticism. Some users attempted to guess what he might be going through, bringing up their own medical experiences. And others said they didn’t trust the text-focused post. They wanted to see his face and hear him speak before accepting he is truly on the mend.

Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, more celebrities show support for Foxx

Celebrity friends of Foxx, including Kevin Hart and Nick Cannon, have voiced support for the actor amid his health concerns.

While appearing earlier this month on YouTuber Logan Paul’s podcast “Impaulsive,” Kevin Hart shared while he isn’t privy to the “exact details” of Foxx’s situation, he knows the actor is recovering.

“I think the dope thing is that he’s getting better in his situation and everybody’s prayers, everybody’s love, energy, all that stuff is seen and felt,” Hart said. “You just want the guy to get out of the situation and to get back home.”

Foxx’s friend Nick Cannon, who will be filling in for the actor as host of the Fox game show “Beat Shazam,” previously gave an update about Foxx’s condition in an interview with Entertainment Tonight published April 23.

“Man, I’m praying,” Cannon said. “I literally have been saying prayers out loud. Words of affirmation for my big brother. I know he’s doing so much better.”

Cannon added: “He’s awake. They say he’s alert, so we love it. That’s family right there.”

And on Foxx’s singular post since the news broke, many famous fans including Courteney Cox and John Legend commented, who each posted praying-hands emojis. “Yesssss!!!! Take all the time you need bro!!!!” Kenan Thompson commented, while Mary J. Blige wrote “Love you Jamie” with a string of hearts.

Jamie Foxx has a history of keeping his personal life quiet, including his former relationship with Katie Holmes

Foxx has been notoriously private about his personal life over the years.

As Hart mentioned on the podcast, Foxx keeps a lot of his private life under wraps. So, it’s not surprising that he might not share the details of his medical situation with the public.

One example of his efforts to maintain his privacy included his six-year relationship with Katie Holmes. The couple never publicly confirmed they were a couple, but posed for pictures together inside the Met Gala in 2019, a kind of nod to their long-rumored relationship. At the time, Corinne, then-25, told People magazine the two stars were “really happy” together.

Holmes and Foxx were first linked as a couple in 2013, not long after Holmes’s divorce from Tom Cruise in 2012. Stories of their relationship continued bubbling up and by 2015, People and Us Weekly reported that Holmes had begun spending time at Foxx’s Los Angeles home after moving from New York. In 2017, the couple was snapped strolling hand-in-hand down a Malibu beach. Rumors the couple split surfaced in 2019.

“Jamie’s always been a private person to a certain degree,” Hart said on the podcast.

Foxx has a large body of work including credits like “Collateral,” “Django Unchained” and “Dreamgirls.” And he has plenty of new work coming out soon, too.

That list includes “Back in Action,” the flick that brought Cameron Diaz out of retirement last June to star alongside Foxx in the upcoming film “Back in Action,” which is currently in post-production, according to IMDb.

Foxx shared the news of Diaz’s return on Twitter by posting a recording of a three-way call between Diaz, Foxx and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

“Cameron, I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT,” tweeted Foxx, who co-starred with Diaz in the 2014 film “Annie.”
