What can Manchester United do to Cristiano Ronaldo after his interview with Piers Morgan?

The Portugues star has taken the world of sports by storm after British broadcast journalist Piers Morgan released a few videos of his upcoming interview with the player. In the interview, Ronaldo claims the club painted him as a black sheep and singled him out for the team’s bad form, in addition to feeling betrayed by his coach and club board members.

A lot of speculation about what will happen in the coming weeks with the ex-Real Madrid and Juventus player has surfaced on various outlets. The most common rumor is that he will sign with a new club over the winter transfer window. However, Chelsea seems to be the front-runner to snatch the player up.

Can the English team end his contract?

Yet, another rumor is emerging that could see Manchester United terminate Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract and ban him or, better yet, prohibit him from playing for another club under FIFA rules.

David Seligman, a football attorney, feels that if United and Ronaldo’s relationship is irreparable and he has breached the terms of his pact, United might terminate Ronaldo’s contract but prevent him from joining another side.

“Man United would likely have ground to terminate Ronaldo’s contract. Material breach of the implied duty of trust and confidence, as well as express terms regarding bringing the club into disrepute. FIFA rules/jurisprudence on player registrations are not all that simple. United could terminate the contract but retain player registration for the purposes of compensation if termination is caused by Ronaldo’s conduct,”the lawyer tweeted.

Manchester United could amicably end things

According to insiders, United will not release him from his contract unless he voluntarily gives up the remaining six months of his deal, which is worth roughly £13 million. This seems the best course of action for both player and club, Ronaldo gets to sign with another club, and the team is not out of a lot of money.
