Usman Khawaja continued his fine form in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy and became only the second batsman to hit a century in the ongoing series. The left-handed batsman slammed a brilliant ton in a total of 255 and finished day 1 at an unbeaten score of 104 off 251. Not only did Khawaja play the pacers quite well, but he also negated the spin threat and faced R Ashwin, Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja bravely.

En route to his century, Khawaja was left surprised when an unnecessary throw from KS Bharat hit him. On the second delivery of the 71st over, Khwaja was floored by a bouncer from Mohammed Shami. While he seemed well prepared for the bouncer, the batsman wasn’t prepared for what happened next.

The opening batsman got hit on his left leg by an unnecessary throw from KS Bharat. The purpose of the throw wasn’t known as the batter wasn’t leaving the crease nor was he looking for a run.

Senior player Virat Kohli was quick to react to Bharat’s throw and made him realise that it was unnecessary. Captain Rohit Sharma had a smile on his face as he saw Khawaja smiling. The Australian said something to Bharat after the throw and moved to the other end after taking a single on the next delivery.

Khawaja was batting on 68 when he got hit by the throw. He ended the day with a score of 104*, propelling Australia to a score of 255. The first session of day 2 will be the most important for both teams. Australia can either put up a big total by denying chances to Indians or they can get bundled out under 300.

The track hasn’t quite assisted spinners and it will be a challenging task for India to restrict Australia under 300. The home team leads the four-match Test series 2-1 and needs to win or draw the fixture to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
