‘What a mess’ – Jamie Carragher in disbelief as Chelsea star Conor Gallagher linked to Tottenham transfer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has registered his shock at the news Tottenham could sign Conor Gallagher from London rivals Chelsea.

Reports are gathering place surrounding a possible switch to Ange Postecoglou’s side.

The Blues’ academy graduate is currently captaining his boyhood club with Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured.

As well as that, he’s arguably been their best player with stats laying bare his all-action midfield performances.

OPTA revealed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the England international is the only player in Europe’s big five leagues this season with 20+ shots, 20+ chances created, 20+ dribbles completed, 20+ touches in the opposition box, 20+ duels won, 20+ tackles and 20+ interceptions.

But with the January transfer window set to open, Gallagher is potentially going to be the first out of the door at Stamford Bridge.

The club are looking to balance the books after a lavish spending spree which has breached the £1billion mark.

Selling academy stars is a sure-fire way to recoup cash given there was no initial transfer outlay.

But potenitally parting with such a key figure has left many in disbelief.

Carragher posted on X: “Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season along with Cole Palmer, this just shows what a mess the new ownership have made at the club.

“Selling an academy player because it helps with FFP,” he added with an weary-faced emoji.

talkSPORT understands that Tottenham are interested in the 23-year-old who has 11 caps for his nation.

Formal talks, though, are not believed to have been opened.
