WEST BABYLON, NY— West Babylon Junior High School will once again host another beloved tradition.
The school will have its fifth annual St. Baldrick’s event on Saturday March 10 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 200 Old Farmingdale Rd. There will be activities for the whole family, such as carnival games, face painting, hats for sale, food sales and raffles.
All funds raised will help reach the school’s goal for 2023 of $40,000 for a five-year total of $200,000 to help find a cure for children’s cancer.
Other activities include head shaving, live music and dance performances in Eagle Hall (auditorium), knit items for sale, and food and beverages for purchase.
Raffles will also take place, with prizes like Yankees and Mets tickets, gift cards and specialty cookies.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with the aim of raising funds to help find cures for children with cancer.
According to its website, the name of the foundation is not associated with a recognized Saint of the Catholic Church, but is founded on word play and appropriation of the title of sainthood.
According to the St. Baldrick’s website, 1 in 264 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer before they turn 20. Children are lost to cancer more than any other childhood diseases combined, it states.
Shaved hair is not donated, by St. Baldrick’s, its website says, but volunteers are welcome to shave their heads at the organizations’ events and donate their hair to another organization.
