Steve Clarke, the Scotland manager, said he could feel momentum building in his team as they now stand just 90 minutes away from reaching a major tournament for the first time in 22 years. A fraught night at Hampden ended with a penalty shoot-out victory over Israel to secure a Euro 2020 play-off final against Serbia next month.
Clarke’s side now faces Serbia in Belgrade for the November 12 showdown after they extended their unbeaten run to six games by beating Israel. David Marshall saved Eran Zahavi’s first attempt for Israel and Scotland were flawless from the spot, scoring from John McGinn, Callum McGregor, Scott McTominay, Lawrence Shankland and Kenny McLean in the country’s first ever shoot-out.
