PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Good Wednesday morning everyone!

It’s a quiet start on radar for NWFL, however, showers and thunderstorms rumble by in the Gulf to our south. A few clouds are coming off of those storms and we may not get to see as much sun as we did yesterday morning. But your morning hours will still be your driest of the day ahead. Keep the umbrellas close by once again as storms develop later today.

Otherwise, it’s another warm and humid start with temperatures in the low to mid 70s and dew points in the sultry 70s as well. Highs today still top out in the upper 80s, near 90 degrees inland. We may end up a degree or so shy of yesterday’s highs with the anticipation of a few more clouds in our skies today.

However, by the midday, enough daytime heating will start to set off our diurnal rain chance. With southeasterly steering flow still in place, storms should start up along the coast around Gulf, Franklin, and Bay Counties. We’ll see them spread further inland into the afternoon. Some storms from the Eastern Panhandle may even be able to drift into our skies by the evening as well. They’ll be hit or miss, but a good chunk of the Panhandle will deal with a round or two this afternoon into the evening.

We’ll continue this regular sea breeze midday and afternoon scattered storm setup for the rest of the week until the holiday weekend. A frontal boundary will stall out in the Southeast over Saturday and Sunday. There’s good potential with a deep moisture rich environment for heavy rainfall, some isolated severe weather, and an increasing rip current risk.

I will say that we’ve seen some trending toward possibly lowering rain chances for Sunday, the 4th. We’ll give it another day to see if this slight shift of the front to the east could lead toward a drier setup for Sunday. The trough creating the front develops today in Canada and that should lead toward better data into model runs, which would give us better look as to how the weekend will shape up. Keep those fingers and toes crossed for lower rain chances for at least half of our weekend!

Bottom Line…

For today, partly cloudy skies turn mostly cloudy with midday and afternoon scattered storms. Highs today top out around 89° with a heat index in the mid to upper 90s. Your 7 Day Forecast has a stretch of unsettled afternoons(largely) for the rest of the week with potential for heavy rains over the weekend.
