LOCALS on Scotland’s luckiest islands have scooped a share of a £20,000 jackpot after their 13th People’s Postcode Lottery win.

Fifteen lucky winners pocked the huge cash prize after their Benbecula postcode HS7 5LT was picked as a winner.

This brings the total amount won by residents in the Outer Hebrides to over £3.4 million in three years.

Twelve people in Aird walked away with £1,000 while another three neighbours bagged £2,000.

A fifteenth winner netted a whopping £3,00 after buying three tickets.

Postcode Lottery ambassador Danyl Johnson said: “Congratulations to the fifteen Benbecula neighbours each bagging a lovely cash sum!

“I fondly remember visiting the Outer Hebrides and having the pleasure surprising winners in North Uist, Berneray and most recently a trip to Stornoway last year.”

The Scottish island, made up of just 58 postcodes, scooped a cash prize of £3million in February 2020.

The lottery jackpot landed in North Uist and Berneray and two residents walked away with £193,055 each.

The other nine netted winnings from £21,425 to £64,275.

At the time, Pamela Macaskill, 46, had three jobs in a post office, holiday home and art gallery when she received a cheque for £193,055.

She became the island’s joint biggest winner overnight with her husband Angus and went on to appear in Channel 4’s documentary ‘The Scottish Island that Won the Lottery’.

And just last year Nataliya Nedkova, 42, won £30,000 when her Stornoway postcode was picked.

At the time, she said: “It’s just massive and quite surreal, the whole experience has been amazing since the lottery knocked on my door.

“I’ll remember this experience for years to come, even more than just the money.”

Back in June, the Outer Hebrides was found to be the UK’s “luckiest place” most likely place to win the lottery.

Since the People’s Postcode Lottery began in 2005, a study found that residents on the island are most likely to rake in the mega jackpot.

The study found that there were 13 wins for every 10,000 people living there.

For comparison, in London that number was just two in 10,000.

Other lucky areas in Scotland included Perth, Tweedale, Inverness and Dumfries.
