BRATTLEBORO — Brattleboro Area Women’s Softball League President Lori Longo addresses player concerns online by day and puts on a clinic on the field by night.

She went 4-for-4 at the plate on Thursday evening and also pitched a six-hit shutout, leading W&B Maintenance to a 13-0 victory over Bruegger’s Bagels in five innings at Living Memorial Park.

“The core of this team has been together for about eight years now. We’ve played well together,” said Longo, who is a Whitingham High School graduate.

The winners racked up 19 total hits in the slow-pitch contest, with Amy Lawliss and Bri Harris chipping in with three apiece.

“It’s a blast to play in this league,” noted Lawliss. “We all support each other.”

After posting on the BAWSL Facebook site earlier in the day about picking up additional players and being ready to play at the scheduled game times, Longo would throw five scoreless innings. She struck out six, walked zero, and watched her middle infielders — Wendy Gouin (2B) and Harris (SS) — make six quality plays behind her.

W&B would steal a 4-0 lead in the first frame, highlighted by a two-run double from Lawliss. Dee LaValley, Gouin and Harris all delivered with an RBI single in the second. And Hannah Sullivan’s inside-the-park home run was the major blow during a five-run fourth.

Hinsdale High School graduate Gabby LeClair and former Brattleboro Union High School standout Mary Richardson each finished with a couple of hits for Bruegger’s Bagels.

Richardson (SS) also got some laughs when she went down to her knees to field a grounder in the fourth and then crawled to second base to get the force out.

Longo gave up singles to Jill Robinson and Jayme Conway in the top of the fifth, but was able to get out of the jam in order to preserve the shutout.
