Wayne Rooney issues emphatic response after Nottingham Forest bid for Derby County defender

Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has responded after Nottingham Forest lodged a bid for Rams defender Lee Buchanan.

Forest have reportedly offered the crisis-torn Rams £2million for 20-year-old, half up front and the other half in add-ons.

That is said to be well short of Derby’s valuation of the youngster, who made 37 appearances last season.

Despite their well-documented financial problems, the Rams have no intention of selling Buchanan to Forest, or any other club, says Rooney. He said the same applies to Nathan Byrne, who has been attracting attention from Celtic.

Amid continuing uncertainty over the ownership of the Pride Park club, Rooney is desperately short of players and has had to draft in free agents to fill out the squad for pre-season.

“None of my players are going anywhere,” said Rooney following the Rams’ 2-1 friendly defeat at Salford City on Saturday.

“Obviously, we haven’t got enough players as it is.

“The way we are trying to play, they are the two most important players on the pitch, so none of my players will be leaving the club this transfer window unless it is to benefit them, whether it is a loan, but that can only happen if we are allowed to bring players in.”
