This just in: Spencer Strider is good. Really good.

Spencer Strider perfectly places a 97 mph in the bottom away corner that Manny Machado had a brain-freeze and just watched it with the rest of us. It truly is a thing of beauty:

After two strikeouts to start the game, the game is now entering the bottom of the second with the Braves leading 1-0. Strider has allowed one walk and has shut the door on everything else.

The dynamic second-year pitcher has quickly become one of Atlanta’s most impactful starting pitchers, finishing last year with an 11-5 record, 2.67 ERA, and 202 strikeouts in only 131.2 innings. He came in second to teammate Michael Harris II for NL Rookie of the Year, prompting calls that there should be separate awards for position players and pitchers.

In his career, Strider’s only faced the Padres twice, and both were in relief early last season. He has a combined 4.2 innings against them, with two hits and two runs allowed, striking out five. Strider excelled last week in his season debut, going six scoreless innings against the Washington Nationals, striking out nine, walking three, and allowing only three hits.

The Braves will continue to enjoy home cooking as they play game two of this four game set with the San Diego Padres on Friday night, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:20 ET.
