Louis Moult cancelled out Zak Rudden’s opener for Raith – but sub Brown claimed the winner.

He said: “It feels really good. I was a bit disappointed not to start but came on with a good attitude and showed what I can do.

“It would have been easy to go in the huff but that’s not me.

“The gaffer has been amazing for me and to produce a goal like that for him was brilliant.

“Have I hit one better? No, but as soon as I hit it I knew it was in,

“When the ball dropped, I just thought, ‘Hit it’ and that’s what I did.

“To come on and score the winner was really special.

“We are doing well. We came through a sticky patch but we have beaten the leaders and we are in the title race.”

Raith gaffer Ian Murray added: “That could be a pivotal win for us and it gives us great confidence.

“It was an outstanding goal from Scott and I knew he would be important for us.”

Rovers looked to have lost their way after losing five on the bounce heading into the crucial top of the table clash in Kirkcaldy.

Despite their recent struggles Murray’s men knew a win would draw them back to within just one point of leaders Dundee United.

And they duly did thanks to a dramatic dipping winner with a minute to play.

Some 7,923 supporters piled into Stark’s Park for the hotly-anticipated meeting, the biggest crowd at the historic ground since April 1997.

But Jim Goodwin’s men saw their lead at the top cut to just one point after Brown, who had taken over the captain’s armband, picked up a clearance before blasting in a memorable effort from all of 30 yards to seal a potentially crucial victory for the hosts.

The home fans sang their side off the park, knowing just how pivotal those three points could be to their title hopes.

Gutted Goodwin insists his side are still in the driving seat in the title race.

He said: “We’re happy that we are still top of the table. I thought we played some really good football – the best we’ve played for a number of weeks.

“We showed courage on the ball, we didn’t get the outcome we deserved.

“But there’s plenty of football to be played. I said in the buildup nothing would be decided tonight and that’s still the case.

“I’d rather be in our position than anyone else in the league at this moment in time.”
