Watch: Penguins John Ludvig Lands Lefts vs. Matthew Knies in Fight

Knies #Knies

TORONTO — Pittsburgh Penguins John Ludvig is establishing himself as the guy opponents might not want to fight.

The 213-pound defenseman doesn’t fight often, but he’s shown an ability to connect knuckles to chins when he does. Saturday night, Toronto Maple Leafs winger Matthew Knies asked Ludvig to answer for a heavy hit in the corner. Ludvig quicky obliged.

And Knies’s chin then bore the brunt of his decision after Ludvig’s three quick lefts.

The Penguins claimed Ludvig on waivers from the Florida Panthers just days before the start of the regular season. Ludig, 23, was unable to crack the deep Panthers’ blue line and soon after made his NHL debut with the Penguins this season.

Last month, Ludvig took down the much larger Michael McCarron of the Nashville Predators in a fight. Ludvig has one assist in 13 games, including Saturday, and only 14 penalty minutes, but 10 of those are two fights.

The Penguins received a boost from Ludvig’s scrap but trailed 3-0 after the first period against Toronto at Scotiabank Arena.
