It’s hard to argue with what the Braves have gotten out of veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar thus far in 2023. Entering tonight’s game at Oakland, the right-hander had the third-highest homers-per-at bat ratio on the team, behind only Matt Olson and Marcell Ozuna. That ratio will only improve after this.
With A’s southpaw JP Sears on the hill tonight, Pillar drew the start and has already made an impact, golfing a low-and-in fastball off the base of the left-field foul pole in the spacious Oakland Coliseum. The Braves had more traffic on the bases afterward, but could only muster the single run. In what has been a bit of a black hole position for the club this season, Pillar raking against lefties has been one of the bright spots.
Bryce Elder is on the hill trying to protect that lead. The game broadcast, with Voice of the Braves Brandon Gaudin, is available inside Braves Country on Bally Sports South and is available on MLB.TV outside of the broadcast area. The radio call, with Ben Ingram, is available locally on 680 AM/93.7 FM The Fan or outside the Atlanta market on the Atlanta Braves Radio Network or MLB.com.
